Athens & Hydra, Greece

Route: Athens is a good base to explore some of the nearby islands, such as Hydra.

Transportation: After arriving to Athens, you can go to the main port to catch one of the ferries to go to Hyrda. Book in advance. They fill up quickly, especially in summer. Hydra is approximately an hour away if you take the speedboat.

Also see Cityhook.com's Athens page for airport transportation to the city center.

Accommmodations: Not much to recommend here. It was a great home stay we had.

Food: What can be said? It's Greek food, it is divine. One of our favorite is feta cheese wrapped in sesame and honey.

If you like the taste of anis seed in alcohol, ouzo will do the trick for you. For coffee-lovers, Greece has all kinds of cold options: frappe, freddo cappuchino, freddo espresso.

On Hydra, there are a few good places to eat. Sunset is very good. Check out the eating options in Hydra.

Entertainment: To experience Bouzoukia at night, Athens will have many options. For a full night's show, consider Thea (Θέα) or View in English.
